Medical Coding Integration with MedCodr
To facilitate medical coding of adverse events, medical history, and concomitant medications, Castor provides an out-of-the-box integration with the medical coding platform MedCodr.
What is MedCodr?
MedCodr is a web-based solution for coding medical verbatim terms and products to standard dictionaries, including MedDRA and WHODrug, as well as custom dictionaries.
Through our partnership with MedCodr, Castor users can attach metadata from these dictionaries directly to Adverse Event (AE) repeating data.
What Does This Mean?
When you add verbatim terms to AE repeating data, you can use MedCodr to browse and attach the appropriate metadata from MedDRA or WHODrug. This ensures consistent, standardized medical coding across your study data.
⚠️ Please note: The MedCodr integration cannot be enabled or configured by customers directly. Setup and activation require assistance from the Castor team.
Keep in mind that this integration will incur additional costs due to licensing requirements.
To enable this integration, please reach out to your Castor representative or contact our support team at support@castoredc.com
How It Works
The Castor–MedCodr integration supports both auto-coding and manual coding workflows:
-
Auto-coding:
Where possible, MedCodr automatically codes verbatim terms using the selected medical dictionary. -
Manual review and coding:
Users can easily review auto-coded items and manually code any remaining uncoded entries. -
Data synchronization:
The coded terms are pushed back to Castor into dedicated repeating data fields, which can then be exported separately.
Castor also provides Coding-as-a-Service for when your team does not have the time or capabilities to perform this task (will incur additional costs).
Supported Dictionaries and Services
Through this integration, Castor supports coding with the following:
-
MedDRA and WHODrug dictionary versions
-
All necessary term levels for medical coding
-
Other coding systems, if required by your study setup
