How Castor handles external randomization data depends on whether you want to import an allocation list for real-time randomization or record external randomization results.
1. Importing a Pre-Generated Randomization List (Not Supported)
- It is not possible to upload an external randomization list or schedule into Castor’s built-in Randomization engine.
- Castor’s native randomization engine dynamically allocates treatment groups in real-time based on variable block sizes and stratification factors defined in the study settings.

2. Recording External Randomization Outcomes (Supported via Import)
If participants are randomized outside Castor (e.g., via an external IVRS/IWRS, third-party statistical software, or sealed envelopes), you can easily record and import their assigned groups and numbers into Castor:
- Create Target Fields: In the Form Builder, add dedicated fields to capture the outcome—such as a Number field for Randomization Number and a Dropdown/Radio field for Assigned Treatment Arm.

Manage Blinding (If Applicable): If clinical site staff must remain blinded, restrict visibility using user roles or field-level permissions.

- Import Data: Navigate to the Participants tab and use Castor's data importer. Participants can be created automatically on the fly during the import process if they do not yet exist.
